The circle is complete: here’s LEGO Star Wars UCS Jango Fett’s Slave I in Boba Fett’s colours
Following years of LEGO Star Wars fans building Boba Fett’s UCS Slave I in Jango Fett’s colours, one fan has now completed the circle by doing the reverse with 75409 Jango Fett’s Starship.
Jango and Boba Fett’s starships are pretty much identical in all but their colour schemes, which has led to plenty of recoloured 75060 Slave Is over the years. The 2015 Ultimate Collector Series set was designed for Boba Fett, but a quick Google search will turn up dozens of examples of the same set built in Jango’s dark blue, green, yellow and white colour scheme rather than his clone son’s sand green, dark red and brown hues.
But then the LEGO Group decided to go one better and cook up 75409 Jango Fett’s Starship, an off-the-shelf UCS Slave I in prequel trilogy colours that also happens to build on and improve the design of its decade-old predecessor. Suddenly 2015’s coveted 75060 Slave I isn’t looking so hot any more – but no matter. All Boba needs for an upgrade of his own is a fresh lick of paint on (and a little tinkering of) this year’s May the 4th set.
In steps redditor Krysu_, who’s here to show us that it is indeed totally possible to rework 75409 Jango Fett’s Starship into a vessel fit for Boba Fett, while still retaining all the functionality and interior space of the original set. “It’s not a 1:1 recolour as some new elements in Jango’s Slave I do not currently exist in the colours I needed,” the builder wrote on reddit.
“Mainly for the panels in dark red, curves in sand green, and slopes in dark bluish grey. I had to substitute those parts with other built-up elements to get similar shaping down and I’m satisfied with the result!”
Eagle-eyed builders will spot a handful of other differences between this model and 75409 Jango Fett’s Starship, most notably the modified dual-laser cannons, which Krysu_ says they amended for better stability. “I already own the original UCS Boba Fett Slave I, but the build of Jango’s is far superior,” they added. “I just had to redo it in Boba colours. I’ll have to pull that old one out of storage to compare them all together as well.”
The builder estimates it would cost around $160 in parts on top of 75409 Jango Fett’s Starship to complete this rebuild, but can’t give an exact figure because they pulled some of the pieces from their existing collection. “You end up with a large bag of all the Jango parts so if you were to sell the leftovers/minifigures you could probably break even,” Krysu_ said. “Still probably cheaper than buying the old UCS Slave I.”
If you want to give this a go for yourself, 75409 Jango Fett’s Starship is available now for £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99. Don’t forget to claim your exclusive gift-with-purchase code for 40680 Flower Store if you’re in the UK.
